There is no doubt that it has been a difficult start for the reigning champions.
Manchester United's midfield has been a key Achilles heel along with an aging defence and David Moyes will need to address these issues if he is to get United back to where they were.
Here are three big signings that could transform Man U into the force they were.
1. Koke, Atletico Madrid - Atletico's young Spanish international has been a key factor in their surprise title challenge. Diego Simeone will find it very hard to stave off bids from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Chelsea, Man City, etc. - clubs richer than Atletico Madrid so a move to Manchester United could be the best move career wise for Koke.
2. Miralem Pjanic, Roma - Roma's rising Bosnian star is another hot target in Europe and given Roma's parlous finances, it is more likely that Pjanic will eventually move to bigger, richer clubs. Pjanic would be a fine investment for the long term at Old Trafford.
3. Ander Herrera, Athetic Bilbao - Another Spanish starlet and one that United have been pursuing for some time - they had a bid rejected in the summer but it probably won't be the end of United's pursuits for the Basque midfielder.
