Highlanders Beat Blues to Kick off 2014 Season on Winning Note! #SuperRugby

After lots of hype in the build up to a season that transpired to be underwhelming and disappointing last time round, the Highlanders kept their pre-season rather quiet amidst doubts cast on the abilities of Jamie Joseph and his fellow coaches.

It clearly worked with the Highlanders opening their campaign with a deserved win over a Blues team who had been riding a bit of a marketing wave on the back of the arrival of rugby league convert, Benji Marshall.

The Highlanders scored 24 unanswered points in the first half and added another unconverted try in the 2nd half to put themselves just ahead of a spirited Blues comeback that will please John Kirwan somewhat - although JK will not be too happy about the missed shot at goal by the normally reliable Chris Noakes that could prove costly later in the season - the Blues would have gained a bonus point for finishing within 7 points had the goal gone through.

It remains to be seen how the Highlanders will go this season but on the back of this season, the prospects of a better season than last are promising.
