RIP Sarah Burke & Liverpool Warrior

RIP Sarah Burke (1982-2012)
Firstly, some sad news to report with the passing of Canadian free-style skier, Sarah Burke this morning. Sarah Burke died after sustaining fatal head injuries following a training accident. Burke long campaigned for free-style skiing to be included in the Olympics.

A big tragedy then that she died just before she was able to compete in the first Olympics to include her sport - by the way it's the same sport featuring New Zealander and men's champ, Jossi Wells.

Burke was 30 and left behind a husband.

Liverpool Signs with Warrior - Rise of the Non-Nike American Brands
Some big news in the world of soccer finance with Liverpool announcing it had signed a record 25 million pound deal with American clothing brand, Warrior. Currently, Warrior specializes in lacrosse and ice hockey clothing.

Being a big fan of Adidas, I'm naturally shocked and disappointed that Adidas has lacked the foresight to realize the value of the Liverpool Football Club brand especially after all these years. But at the same time, it opens up the opportunity for another brand to stamp its mark.

With Liverpool signing with Warrior and Tottenham signing with Under Armour - both big multi-million dollar deals - has the time come for the new age American clothing brands to take on the established duopoly of Nike and Adidas?

I actually like Under Armour's products - and quite like the designs they currently have for the Welsh rugby team. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do in football.

At the same time you wonder about Adidas' global health. Yes the All Blacks are still with the German apparel giants but at the same time, Adidas via their sister brand, Reebok have lost their exclusive contract with the NFL to supply all 32 teams' clothing - the NFL has signed with Nike from 2012.

Has the Euro crisis finally hit the Germans hard?
