Kenny Dalglish Quits!

Kenny Dalglish has quit as Liverpool manager as of this morning. Fenway Sports Group have just announced Dalglish's departure.

During Dalglish's second tenure as Liverpool manager, Liverpool had their worst season in the Premier League in over 10 years, finishing behind their Merseyside rivals, Everton in 8th place and winning the least number of games at home in a long time.

While Liverpool did win the Carling Cup and made the FA Cup Final, the owners not surprisingly have deemed that Dalglish isn't the right man to carry out their plans for Liverpool in the long run, despite letting him spend much of the transfer budget on young players like Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll.

It appears that Roberto Martinez may be the early front-runner to replace Dalglish at Liverpool. Martinez of course has been the architect behind Wigan's amazing recoveries from relegation in the last two seasons.

I'm also tipping Norwich's Paul Lambert who I thought was off to Tottenham if Redknapp took the England manager role. Lambert does have European experience with Dortmund and Celtic and is a Scot and Glaswegian like Dalglish.

Former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez has also been mentioned. For more on Liverpool's replacements, click on my latest entry: http://twominutessport.blogspot.com/2012/05/who-should-replace-king.html

More on this story as it continues to develop.
