Is this the Greatest Premier League Season Ever? Yesss!!!

So a thrilling and memorable English Premier League season will come to an end this Sunday.

Manchester City look set to win the title on goal difference - the first time this would have happen if it does in Premier League history and the first time since 1988-89 that the champions would have been crowned only on goal difference.

At the other end of the table, Bolton and QPR will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid joining Blackburn and Wolves in dropping out of the Premier League. It is quite likely both sides will lose their games meaning QPR would be safe and Bolton would go down in one of the tighter relegation battles in recent times.

And just near the top of the table, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle will be fighting for at least one Champions League spot next season in what has become quite a tight race in recent seasons.

What a season.

But was it the greatest Premier League season ever? There's a lot going for the 2011-12 Premier League season being considered that.

Who would have thought Manchester City would thrash their bitter rivals on their own hallowed turf at Old Trafford 6-1?

Who would have thought that City would then claw back an 8-point disadvantage so late in the season to be in the driving seat for the title?

Who would have thought that Norwich and Swansea would be so impressive in their first season back in the top flight?

Who would have thought that an average Blackburn side would stand up and beat Manchester United and Arsenal this season?

Who would have thought that Tottenham's 10 point buffer in February would disappear leaving them still uncertain of Champions League football?

So many talking points in a classic season.

I guess other contenders for greatest Premier League season ever could be the 1994-95 season when Blackburn Rovers won the title on the final day despite losing to Liverpool, 1995-96 when Man United clawed their way back to beat Newcastle despite being so far back, 1998-99 when the title went down to the final day between United and Arsenal, 2007-08 when the title again went down to the wire between United and Chelsea..

But 2011-12 must surely take the prize.

Regardless of what you think, it's been one heck of a season of football! And I don't think we've seen the best of this season yet. More in a proper review next week!
