Disappointing Premier League XI

Well there's the form Premier League XI with Robin van Persie, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Joe Hart, etc. Then there's the not-form Premier League XI featuring players who have been pretty disappointing this year after such reasonably high expectations in pre-season.

Here they are:

GK - David De Gea, Manchester United

De Gea recovered somewhat after a horror start to his United career but it wasn't quite enough for a player who had huge expectations placed on him at the start of the season following the retirement of Edwin van der Saar the previous season. Could still improve next season but has been a big disappointment after the plaudits at the start of the season.

DF - Patrice Evra, Manchester United

Form has been woeful for one of the Premier League's great left backs and it has shown in a very leaky defense that has faltered at the death. Could be leaving Manchester at end of season. I know a Uruguayan who will be very happy to see the back of that twat.

DF - Roger Johnson, Wolves

You're probably wondering why Sebastian Coates isn't in this lineup. Well that's because Roger Johnson has to be in this lineup as he had huge expectations placed on him to improve a Wolves defense that was leaky last season. As it was, Wolves defense deteriorated and they sank into relegation with 4 matches to spare. Word is that Johnson will be loaned to Sheffield Wednesday next season.

DF - David Luiz, Chelsea

Just beats out Coates and Scott Dann. Luiz has been truly awful wherever you play him and has looked absolutely at sea in the Premier League this season to the point that Chelsea had to fork out more money on Gary Cahill who has helped improve Chelsea's defense.

DF - Stephen Warnock, Aston Villa

So why was he in the England World Cup squad? Part of a hugely anonymous Aston Villa team.

MF - Ashley Young, Manchester United

Another disappointing United summer purchase, Young moved to United from Villa to win trophies. If he was going to win any, he would have received them by default. As it is, he deserves nothing on his performances for the Red Devils this season. Let's hope for his sake, he improves next season.

MF - Jordan Henderson, Liverpool

Liverpool paid big money for Henderson looking to build the side around one of England's brightest young midfielders. The former Black Cat could still be the best thing since sliced bread but for now he only offers moldy bread and has looked rather ineffective in the centre of the Reds midfield. It's a wonder that he stayed there for so long.

MF - Charlie Adam, Liverpool

Another disappointing Liverpool summer acquisition. Adam was expected to have produced the stellar form of the 2010-11 season with Blackpool. There were glimpses during the season but when he needed to shine, Adam was anonymous and Liverpool need Stevie G more than ever.

MF - Andrei Arshavin, Arsenal

After a fantastic start to his Arsenal career, the Russian maestro's career in England appears to have stalled. It epitomizes Arsenal's problems this season that Arshavin has failed to replace the void left by the departing Samir Nasri despite his huge transfer fee. Now his future in North London is in doubt having lost the faith of the manager & gone on loan to Zenit St Petersburg in January.

FW - Andy Carroll, Liverpool

Another disappointing big Liverpool signing and probably the most disappointing of them all given he was signed in January last year. He still can't find the back of the net as frequently as his big price tag suggests and is one of the reasons for Liverpool's poor home form. On the bright side, there are signs this late in the season that Carroll might be about to finally justify his huge price tag.

FW - Edin Dzeko, Manchester City

The Bosnian star was tipped to be the next Didier Drogba at City but when he lost form, Mancini had to bring in Carlos Tevez from exile. Dzeko needs to lift his game if he wants to have any part in City's future bid for European and domestic domination.
