Brockie! Brockie! Brockie!

Brockie! Brockie! Brockie! was Radio Sport host, D'Arcy Waldergrave's tribute to Jeremy Brockie during the dark days of the New Zealand Knights.

The worst kept secret is out of the bag now. Jeremy Brockie has signed with the Wellington Phoenix for the 2012-13 A-League season. Brockie will return to New Zealand to play for a Kiwi based A-League team for the first time since he made his debut as a youngster in 2004 for the doomed New Zealand Knights. Brockie has been playing in the NZ Football Championship then the A-League first for North Queensland then Newcastle.

With Newcastle terminating Brockie's contract when their franchise was initially handed back by owner, Nathan Tinckler, Brockie was always going to be a target for the Wellington Phoenix. His pace and skills on the flanks and up front could be handy in supporting Paul Ifil next season and take some of the pressure of the Barbados striker.

So with an attacking player and goalkeeper (Glen Moss) now signed up to the Phoenix, will the Nix now look to strengthen their midfield and defence? Probably in the former I'd say especially with Tim Brown now retired and Nick Ward released from his contract.

What about Cole Peverley who has been impressive for Canterbury United? Or Craig Henderson at Mjallby AF?

In terms of foreign players, is it time to look at the booming Asian football region?

What about a punt on the experienced Seol Ki-Hyeon who played for Anderlecht and Reading in Europe?

Or a punt on Malaysia's impressive captain Mohd Safiq Rahim, captain of Malaysia's highly successful football team of the last 3 years and has had a trial at Cardiff City?

However, it is quite likely the Nix will look at experienced A-League campaigners to bolster their ranks.
