Houston Astros to Play in American League from 2013

The MLB has announced that the Houston Astros will play in the American League's Western Division from 2013 onwards. This comes after the outfit was sold to Jim Crane on Thursday.

There will be 2 more wildcards added to the playoffs from 2013 too. Currently there are only 2 in the playoffs - one from each league. The changes see the MLB playoffs follow the NFL playoff system.

Really it is the right call - the NL Central currently has 6 teams while the AL West has 4 and the other divisions have 5 teams.

Looking forward to it as a Seattle Mariners fan as it means another divisional rival to play. Also looking forward to those Texas derbies next season which should add some needed spice in rivalries west of St Louis..

Bring on the Lone Star Series!!

So here's the lineup for the 2013 MLB season:
American League:East - NY Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays

Central - Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians

West - Seattle Mariners, LA Angela, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros

National League:
East - Philadelphia Phillies, Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals, NY Mets

Central - St Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates

West - LA Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks
