Fabrice Muamba Fighting For Life

In some terrible news this morning, Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup tie at home to Bolton Wanderers was abandoned when Bolton's Fabrice Muamba suddenly collapsed on the field in 41st minute of the game.

23-year-old Muamba was given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and CPR by paramedics immediately and rushed to hospital accompanied by manager, Owen Coyle and captain, Kevin Davies.

Minutes later, the game was abandoned to applause from the crowd.

There are grave concerns of course when a player just collapses like Muamba did this morning. Dark memories of Miklos Feher, Marc Vivien-Foe & Antonio Puerta have certainly been evoked.

Fabrice Muamba was born on 6 April 1988 in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His father fled to Britain for political asylum in 1994. The rest of the family joined him after he was granted indefinite leave to remain in 1999.

Despite being unable to speak English when he first arrived in Britain, Muamba achieved 10 GCSEs and A-Levels in English, French and Mathematics and was accepted into Arsenal's highly acclaimed youth system.

Muamba moved to Birmingham City for more game-time. After the Blues were relegated at the end of the 2007-08 season, Muamba transferred to Bolton Wanderers where has been a key player since.

Will keep you posted as Fabrice Muamba continues the fight of his life. Please also pray for him when you can.

In the meantime, here's a verse to ponder upon: Psalm 23:

The Lord is My Shepherd, I shall not want, He makes me lie down in green pastures and sets a feast before my enemies. And even though I walk through the valley of shadow, I shall not fear.

UPDATE, 9:15am, Sunday - Fabrice Muamba is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital according to initial reports from twitter. Some good news.

UPDATE, 9:45pm - Bolton manager, Owen Coyle, has said that the next 24 hours will be absolutely vital for Fabrice Muamba as he recovers at ICU at the Heart Attack Centre at London's Chest Hospital. Coyle said that Muamba's condition is very serious.

UPDATE, 8:58am, Monday - Fabrice Muamba remains in a stable but critical condition. Doctors at London's Chest Hospital have also confirmed that Muamba had suffered a cardiac arrest. He will remain anaesthesized for 24 hours as per procedure. Meanwhile, Bolton's game away to Aston Villa set for Tuesday night (local time) has been postponed.

UPDATE, 8:38am, Tuesday - Fabrice Muamba is reportedly off the ventilator and is breathing on his own. He has responded to friends and family at hospital.

  1. So sad...as an arsenal supporter I remember keeping an eye on Muamba when he was coming through the academy. I lot of people thought he could be an England international in time. Thankfully he hasn't actually passed on the pitch. I remember watching the game when Marc Vivien Foe collapsed. It waas awful....sems to happen a lot more regularly now than it used to?? Probably because of the aerobic/ anaerobic capacity needed at the highest level now. Hope his condition improves.
