Peyton Manning No Longer a Colt

It appears that Peyton Manning is no longer the Indianapolis Colts star quarterback. The Colts have released the veteran older brother of Super Bowl winner, Eli and waived the last 4 years of his contract.

This means 35-year-old Peyton Manning is a free agent and paves the way for Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III to come to Lucas Oil Stadium as franchise quarterback next season.

Peyton Manning missed the entire 2011 NFL season due to a serious neck injury. The Colts fell apart in his absence finishing the season 2-14, their worst record since Manning was a first draft pick 14 years ago.

Manning was a first draft pick from the University of Tennessee in 1997 and the Colts made the playoffs the following season. However, it would take until 2006 for the Colts under Manning to reach a Super Bowl - they beat the Bears in Miami for what will probably end up being Manning's only Super Bowl triumph after throwing away the chance of a second Super Bowl ring in 2010 to the New Orleans Saints.

His lack of Super Bowl rings was made up by his many many player accolades; a popular choice for season MVP amongst journalists nationwide. In fact, Manning's talent and ability has definitely ensured he will be a future Hall of Famer. And of course who can forget those memorable games between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts - those games will never be the same again..

The question now is can Manning eck out another couple of seasons with his next team, be it Arizona, Seattle, Minnesota or Washington.
