5 Greatest Performances by Arsenal in Europe!

Arsenal's performance at the Westfalenstadion on Wednesday night has been rated as one of their best ever away from home in Europe.

Indeed, Arsene Wenger's class of 2013/14 are the first English side ever to win at Borussia Dortmund's daunting home ground in Europe - not counting the UEFA Cup Final of 2001 held here which Liverpool won over Alaves that time.

It is just a testament to the tenacity and determination of this year's Gunners squad that has seen them top the Premier League and now their Champions League Group of Death.

So how did Arsenal's performance in Germany compare with the Gunners' other great performances in Europe? Here are 5 other classics.

1994, Parma 0-1 Arsenal

In the days when Arsenal were dour side that preferred to play 5 at the back and park the bus, this was one of George Graham's finest performances as manager. Without a recognised striker, Arsenal took the lead through Alan Smith and doggedly held on to the lead to win the European Cup Winner's Cup.

2003, Internazionale 1-5 Arsenal

The game remembered for Thierry Henry's hat-trick. Inter had beaten Arsenal 3-0 at Highbury but the Gunners avenged that defeat in stunning fashion - it was of course a memorable chapter of a season which saw the Gunners finish unbeaten in the league.

2006, Real Madrid 0-1 Arsenal

Another Thierry Henry stunner in a stadium that English clubs hadn't done well until Arsenal - yet again - blazed the trail for them. It was a golden season for Arsenal against Spanish sides - well for most of the season until the Final that is.

2006, Villarreal 1-1 Arsenal

(fast forward to 4:40)

Not the most thrilling performance by the Gunners but probably their best when it really mattered. A place in the Final in Paris was at stake and that was almost in doubt with a penalty awarded to Villarreal - Jens Lehmann saved and the Gunners were in their first European Cup Final.

2013, Bayern Munich 0-2 Arsenal

They might have lost 3-1 at home at the Emirates against the eventual champions in the first leg but this should be remembered as one of the most gutsy Arsenal performances in recent times, with the Gunners almost pulling off the greatest turnaround ever against a Bayern side expected to cruise into the quarterfinals.
