The Bad Boys of Sport

In light of Jesse Ryder's latest escapade with the drink, the public is now polarised as to whether he should remain contracted to New Zealand Cricket or be ditched for good - some say he deserves to be ditched but others might say that ditching him would just exacerbate the situation.

Let's face it, the boy has a problem and he isn't the only one - in fact, his situation could be considered mild compared to some of these other bad boys..

Zac Guildford
Another alcoholic who has admitted he has a problem and is fighting against his ways. Has just finished a suspension after his antics during the off season and is ready for Crusaders selection. Whether he has gotten over his alcoholic problem remains to be seen.

Brendan Fevola
The bad boy of AFL. After playing at Carlton and Brisbane, Fevola finds himself playing in the 2nd tier of Aussie rules football. Fevola's career has been tarnished by off-field incidents - misbehaving at the Brownlow Medal count amongst other things.

Todd Carney
Another hardcase athlete who clearly has a problem. Carney's career has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride going from playing Queensland country rugby league to Dally M Medalist with the Roosters in two seasons. But like the Raiders, Carney has now been discarded by the Roosters and is now attempting his second revival at the Sharks.

Jody Morris
One of the lowest of the low, the former Chelsea player was alleged to have drunkenly abused American tourists at Heathrow Airport just hours after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Now plying his trade at St Mirren in Scotland.

Craig Bellamy
One of football's bad boys who was forced out of Newcastle United after repeated off-field offences. Has made a tremendous comeback since then though via Blackburn, Celtic, Liverpool, West Ham, Man City, Cardiff City and back to Liverpool again.

Michael Vick
The now-Eagles quarterback was of course arrested and jailed for illegal dog fighting when he was at the Atlanta Falcons. Is remorseful over his serious animal cruelty offence.

Plaxico Burress
Burress went from Super Bowl hero with the Giants in 2008 to prison inmate in a couple of seasons after illegally carrying a firearm and shooting his own foot with it. Now back in New York playing for the Jets

OJ Simpson
The ultimate bad boy of sport and alleged murderer of his wife and his wife's friend in Los Angeles in 1994 which resulted in a much-televised police car chase on the freeways. The former running back for the Buffalo Bills is one heck of a character and celebrity and will continue to polarise Americans as to whether he actually did wield the knife or not.
