Otago Rugby Saved - For Another Week!

In breaking news, the Otago Rugby Football Union has deferred its decision to liquidate by a week pending talks over a potential rescue package.

The union had till 4pm to save itself or be liquidated by the High Court. However, media attention since the story of the 131 year old rugby union's potential extinction has resulted in high profile men coming out to rescue the ailing union.

There has been talk emerging today that an ITM Cup team from the region would still compete later in the year. All Blacks captain Richie McCaw and former Otago and All Blacks coach, Laurie Mains had also pledged to help the province whatever way they can.

It also looks like the NZRU, Dunedin City Council, Dunedin Venues Management and NZ Rugby Players Association have been heavily involved in talks of some manner to save the rugby union - whether they will let the current union liquidate and form a new union, or manage to cobble together a package to save the current union remains to be seen.

Awesome news though. I was anticipating a rather gloomy evening especially after the news the Christchurch Cathedral was going to be torn down.

YESSS!!!
