Hats Off to Craig Cumming!

One of New Zealand cricket's great servants will pull out the stumps on his career at the end of this season. Otago batsman and captain, Craig Cumming, will retire from all forms of cricket after the conclusion of the domestic season in a few weeks time after a 19 year career which saw him feature for the Blackcaps in 11 tests and 13 ODIs.

Timaru-born Craig Cumming has been a record-setter for his adopted province, 6463 first class runs and 21 centuries are records for Otago as well as his 2558 runs in the limited overs game.

Cumming was captain for all but 2 of his 12 years in the Deep South and helped guide Otago to glory in the limited overs forms of the game, including a spot in the lucrative Twenty20 Champions League.

While Cumming was never the most talented player nor the flashiest, there is no doubt that Cumming was one of the elite players in New Zealand domestic cricket and his experience will be missed on the field - hopefully Cumming will pursue a role as coach or mentor to the budding cricketers out there in the South Island.

Hats off Craigo!
