Tuamanator is No More!

New Zealand's great heavyweight boxer, and only genuine heavyweight champion of recent times (no offence Sonny Bill, but you beat an actor to get the NZ Heavyweight title), has decided to hang up the gloves at the age of 39. David Tua said he is no longer in a position to prepare physically and mentally for the top echelons of professional boxing.

After winning bronze at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, David Tua turned pro and quickly became one of New Zealand's richest and most prolific sportsmen - this in a time when rugby was still amateur. After losing to Lennox Lewis in Las Vegas in 2000, Tua's career was beset by off-ring troubles with his management team and family.

Tua's fight against Shane Cameron in 2009 was one of the most hyped up events in New Zealand history with Tua knocking out the Mountain Warrior after only 2 rounds.

However, he lost against his arch-rival Monte Barrett in August 2011, in what would prove to be the last pro boxing match of his career.

David Tua, we'll miss you.
