It Is Not Easy Being Green!

You will recall in middle of last year that there was some controversy surrounding the Highlanders' future playing strip. Word was out that the Highlanders were set to ditch their blue/maroon/gold colours for a brand new Canberra Raiders-like green strip.

For the Highlanders' final game at Carisbrook, the new strip was brought out to much anticipation - and horror for some.

After much uproar from Highlanders fans on social media sites, Facebook and Twitter, the Highlanders rescinded on their decision to change the team's colours for the 2012 season and retain the blue/maroon/gold colours.

However, the green strip took over the maroon strip as the away colours for the Highlanders this season.

And I've gotta say I actually love it! If I weren't going on a big overseas trip, I would have rushed up to Rebel Sport or RYOS and bought my own green strip.

I think it actually suits the team and has been done very nicely by Adidas.
Bye bye blue and gold and maroon?

And who knows, if this strip is particularly successful on the sales side, the Highlanders might actually change their home strip to green in the near future.

After all, Southland fans and even Jamie Mackintosh quite liked the green strip when it first came out.

Given the Highlanders may be embarking on a new successful era under Jamie Joseph and under the roof at Forsyth Barr, it could be a perfect time to take on the new colours. After all, with the Blues in blue, Chiefs in black, Crusaders in red and Hurricanes in yellow, green is the only unique colour left on the table for a team to adopt as their home colour.
