Bauer Watch - TdF Day 18
Christophe Riblon finally delivered a stage win for France, after a superb finish overhauling American Tejay van Garderen at the end. Chris Froome extended his lead in yellow to 5 minutes over Alberto Contador despite a 20 second penalty for taking food and drink at the end - it was probably worth it though rather than dropping back due to lack of sustenance on one of the most challenging days of the Tour this year involving two climbs of Alpe d'Huez.
Jack Bauer finished 25 minutes 10 seconds in 69th, a very respectable performance on one of the toughest days on Tour you could get - told you those mountain biking climbing skills would come handy!
Indeed, Jack moved up to 142nd on the GC, 2 hours 59 minutes 28 seconds behind Chris Froome, over 12 minutes ahead of fellow Kiwi Greg Henderson, and...
25-time Tour de France stage winner, Mark Cavendish.
Mind you we are in the middle of the mountain stages and Cav's really out there to win stages rather than finish in the top ten of the GC, but still...
The Tour de France moves on to 4 more climbs tomorrow as it heads onto the home straight to Paris. Stay tuned for more updates as the Tour reaches its exciting climax.
