The Most Controversial Winners Ever?

France may have been the most unpopular and undeserved winners of tonight's RWC Semifinal playing as though they were the ones with 14 men against the plucky and courageous Welsh but who else has earned infamy rather than glory as victor?

Michael Schumacher, 2002 Austrian Grand Prix
Ferrari dominated the 2002 F1 season and were well clear of the opposition when the F1 circus visited the A1 Ring in the Austrian mountains. Ferrari again dominated although it was Rubens Barrichello who was the fastest man in red in the race. Barrichello looked set to take a lights-to-flag win when inexplicably, Ferrari order Barrichello to move over and let Schumacher through to win the game. Naturally the Austrian crowd was quite vocal in expressing their disgust during the podium celebration.

West Germany v England, 1990 World Cup
The mighty Germans were made to look dreadful against a quite average but courageous English team led by Gazza. Yet a deflected goal handed them the lead in their semifinal and they looked set for victory until Gary Lineker deservedly leveled for England to send an epic game into extra-time. England continued to boss the game despite Gazza's yellow card. Gazza would miss England's best chance to win the game. The game ended in a draw and went to penalties. We all know what happened - but if you don't, here's the video - Germans win and go through to the World Cup Final somewhat undeservedly. England just like their Welsh counterparts were heroic losers.
