Top Premier League clubs to sell their own TV rights?

My take on it: absolutely no. The Premier League is terrific as it is right now even if Manchester United seems to be winning the title every season. However, more consistent challengers to the Red Devils are emerging, i.e. Manchester City and Chelsea, and then there are the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool who are capable of challenging for the title when they play to their potential. Even if the title eludes them, there's always the Champions League to console themselves with.

And then there's the others. The Stoke City's, Fulham's, West Brom's, Wolves', Swansea's, Boltons' (not on current form) who are slowly asserting themselves as Premier League forces.

All this is down to the huge revenue the Premier League is earning from selling broadcasting rights worldwide. And all this is down to the way the revenue is fairly split between all 20 clubs.

Look at La Liga now. It is undoubtedly a terrific league and often better than the Premier League in terms of quality but much of the revenue goes to the big two, Real Madrid and Barcelona. And it looks like it'll continue to stay that way unless someone stumps up with loads of cash and buys a club like the Arabs with Manchester City or in fact, Malaga. At the moment, as the big two get richer, the gulf will certainly get bigger.

By having the revenue fairly split, the top clubs in the Premier League are being kept in check and newly promoted clubs have a better chance of establishing themselves in the top flight.

Long may that continue.

And may I add that I find it slightly disappointing as a Liverpool fan to hear about this suggestion from the Liverpool board.
