What a weekend to be an NFL head coach

It was quite a weekend in the NFL for the head coaches.

The two Jims got into a bit of a tussle at the conclusion of the San Francisco 49ers v Detroit Lions game. Schwartz clearly did not appreciate the brash nature of his Californian colleague, Harbaugh, when they shook hands. What ensued was mayhem; shame really as the game itself was quite exciting between two of the NFL's surprise packages.

From an Aussie/Kiwi/British perspective, good on 'em for showing that they cared for the game. As long as it stayed on the field - which it did, as both coaches later apologized publicly for their actions and the NFL let them off with a warning - good on 'em!

The trouble is American pundits do like taking the high and mighty ground and have criticized them for bringing the game into disrepute. Psshh, if anything, this has brought more fans - mostly disgruntled NBA fans - to the NFL courtesy of the fight going viral on Youtube.

Meanwhile, in sunny Tampa Bay, New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl winning coach, Sean Payton, took quite a beating on the touchline - literally.

Charged down by one of his own players as he went out of bounds, Sean Payton sustained a fractured tibia and torn knee ligaments.

(Man I wish someone would just charge down Sir Alex Ferguson like that - straight red card obviously but it'll be gold).
