Football's greatest mercenary has decided to call it quits. 34-year-old Nicolas Anelka told manager, Steve Clarke that he was going to hang up his boots - this follows the death of his agent in the last week or so.
Anelka has played for more clubs than Elizabeth Taylor's husbands. While in America, the Anelka phenomenon would be considered norm if you were a NFL free agent player who was only good enough for special teams, it certainly meant that loyal wasn't a word you'd associate with Anelka.
"Tosser" also comes to mind when it comes to describing Anelka.
Indeed, the disunity in the French national team at the disastrous 2010 World Cup was thought to have been started by the mercurial yet potent goal scorer.
