It's that time of the year again - the leaves have started to change colour and the air is just that bit cooler at night. It's also time to ask if you are Ready for Some Football?
The coaches, quarterbacks, special teams and cheerleaders have all been busy since Colin Kaepernick didn't quite manage to secure the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history against the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans.
The NFL draft has been and gone. So has spring training and so has pre-season.
Now it's time for the real stuff with the Denver Broncos set to host the Super Bowl champions, Baltimore Ravens in what will be a fascinating encounter between two of the AFC's best teams.
Can Peyton and John be winners together? |
A win against the John Harbaugh and the reigning world champions would be a very good start in what should be a showcase between what were the best defenses in the NFL last season.
Packers revive their rivalry with the 49ers on opening weekend! |
There are a few other mouthwatering lineups to open the NFL weekend - the San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers match-up is a classic one and now both sides have two of the best QBs in the business with the young gun Colin Kaepernick taking on the now veteran but still classy Aaron Rodgers.
Cowboys fans will be hoping that the cheerleaders aren't the only good thing about them this season |
And of course there's the Dallas Cowboys hosting the New York Giants to kick off what should be another brutal battle in the NFL's answer to baseball's American League East - the one with the Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles and Rays.
But what about the season ahead?
Can RGIII overcome 2nd season syndrome? |
Ravens are team to beat this season as the reigning champions |
AFC -
Baltimore Ravens - Will be tough to win 2 in a row. Should be in the playoffs again though.
New England Patriots - Expected to canter to another division title. Will fall 1 game short of the SB.
Denver Broncos - This could be Peyton's year. Super Bowl contenders.
Houston Texans - Should win the AFC South but it'll be tougher this time with Indy rallying.
Indianapolis Colts - Will be in the playoffs if Andrew Luck can overcome second season syndrome
Cincinnati Bengals - Will be competitive in brutal division. Might miss out on the playoffs to the Steelers
Cleveland Browns - Forget it.
New York Jets - Will be affected by Super Bowl host curse so no playoffs. Bye bye Rex?
Miami Dolphins - Long shot for the playoffs but should be close to 0.50 record
Buffalo Bills - Forget it. But pick their running backs for your fantasy team.
Tennessee Titans - Could be a surprise package if Jake Locker and Chris Johnson can fire. Outside shot.
Jacksonville Jaguars - Mediocrity to be expected again.
San Diego Chargers - Season of rebuilding. Rivers on the decline. Not good against resurgent Broncos.
Oakland Raiders - The light seems further and further away for Al Davis' team.
Kansas City Chiefs - Can Alex Smith go one better than Matt Cassel? Might not be enough though.
49ers should be team to beat again |
San Francisco 49ers - Should be thereabouts again but might find it tougher with resurgent Seahawks
Atlanta Falcons - Hard to see them repeat their form from last year but should be in the playoffs again.
Washington Redskins - Big test for RG3 - if he overcomes 2nd season syndrome, playoffs beckon again.
Green Bay Packers - As long as Aaron Rodgers is there, so will the Packers.
Seattle Seahawks - Could be the team to beat if Russell Wilson overcomes 2nd season syndrome
Minnesota Vikings - Big ask to make the playoffs again after overachieving last season.
Dallas Cowboys - It's the Cowboys, so when's the December collapse due?
New York Giants - Super Bowl host curse. See New York Jets
Philadelphia Eagles - Can a new broom sweep better than the old? Too brittle but talented.
Chicago Bears - Lovie Smith and Brian Urlacher are gone. Tough to beat but might miss out again.
Detroit Lions - Looking promising for a good season with last season's lessons learnt.
New Orleans Saints - Sean Payton is back and back with a vengeance. SB contender.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - New coach again but might be too much to ask.
Carolina Panthers - Cam Newton should be back to season one form but rest of team is mud.
St Louis Rams - Mediocrity - best players gone.
Arizona Cardinals - Got heart but might not be enough in division dominated by 49ers and Hawks.
Playoffs
AFC - Patriots, Broncos, Texans, Ravens, Steelers, Colts
NFC - 49ers, Saints, Packers, Redskins, Seahawks, Falcons
Could Broncos fans be witnessing this in February 2014 |
