Tokyo To Host 2020 Olympics & Paralympics!
Anata wa, yoriyoi-ji no 7-nenkan anata no nihonjin ni burasshuappu kaishi!
You better start brushing up on your Japanese for the next 7 years!
The IOC has chosen Tokyo as the host of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. The Japanese mega city has beaten the likes of Madrid and Istanbul to host the world's two biggest sporting events.
Spain's capital was eliminated in the first round of voting after a tiebreak leaving Istanbul and Tokyo to battle it out in the final round of voting in Buenos Aires.
It is a huge boost for a nation that is still coming to grips with the recovery following the 2011 earthquake/tsunami that devastated the northern part of the country.
It is also the second time that Tokyo has hosted the Olympics, having hosted them back in 1964.
Back then, Tokyo's hosting of the Olympics was a sign that Japan was back as an international force. Japan will be hoping that after years of sluggish economic growth and natural disasters, the Olympics in 2020 could mark the beginning of a bright new era for the nation.
EDIT: Wrestling is back in the Olympics for 2020 after being dumped by the IOC for Rio. Wrestling beat out softball/baseball and squash for the final spot.
Sorry Nicol David!
