It has taken a long time but Wellington can finally claim a trophy in domestic cricket after a superb run chase saw them win the Ford Trophy in Tauranga this afternoon!
A terrible last over from Northern Districts bowler Scott Kuggelijn where he bowled two full elbow high tosses to Wellington keeper batsman, Luke Ronchi, saw Wellington score the 8 runs they needed for victory and ensured that Wellington's long search for a first domestic cricket championship win in 10 years was over.
Good to see a Wellington team victorious for once! Well done to Luke Ronchi, James Franklin, Luke Woodcock, Jeetan Patel et al.
Shame there was only Paddy and the dog at the picturesque Bay Oval to watch this final. Such is the intransigence towards domestic cricket in NZ these days.
Expect Breakers in Tauranga to be rowdy tonight!
