5 Greatest Manchester Derbies Of All Time

The first Manchester derby is upon us and although it's too early in the season for it to be a real title decider - we've had too many of these games this season already to be honest - it is still the Manchester derby so there is plenty at stake.

Two new managers on other sides of the touchline will be involved in their first ever Manchester derbies although David Moyes probably has a bit more experience with local city derbies from his time at Everton.

Here's a look back at the 5 greatest Manchester derbies (in the league only)

27 April 1974, Manchester United 0 Manchester City 1

The day Manchester United were relegated to Division 2. A goal from ex United player and legend, Denis Law would send the Red Devils down.

9 November 2002, Manchester City 3 Manchester United 1

The last ever derby at Maine Road, it was also City's first Manchester derby in 2 years. Gary Neville had one of his worst games ever as Shaun Goater ran riot. The Goat!

20 September 2009, Manchester United 4 Manchester City 3
Possibly the most thrilling Manchester derby ever. Michael Owen, Liverpool legend himself, scored the winner in the 96th minute.

23 October 2011, Manchester United 1 Manchester City 6
The most memorable win by City at Old Trafford. City showed their title credentials. Funnily enough, it was those 5 goals that would make all the difference later in the season.

30 April 2012, Manchester City 1 Manchester United 0
This was the game that pretty much ensured City would be champions. It was a thrilling end-of-season game between the two title contenders.

And the greatest goal ever?
