Otago Volts Qualify For the Champions League

The Otago Volts have all but sealed their place in the group stages of the lucrative Twenty20 Champions League starting later this month.

The Volts beat Kandruta Maroons from Sri Lanka in their 2nd of 3 qualifying games, meaning that only a shock mathematical defeat in their last game will eliminate them - given that they've won 2 out of 3, they should be sweet though.

Dutchman Ryan ten Deschoate - God bless the Dutch! - helped the Volts to 157, while Ian Butler led the bowlers to limit the Maroons in a tight run chase.

While not quite as sexy and high profile as the UEFA Champions League, Twenty20's version is still financially lucrative and for a small cricket body like Otago, it's a bit like winning the big Lotto dip.

Expect to see Neil Broom and Ian Butler back at Armstrong Motor Group's Mercedes Benz dealership when they return from India.
