Greatest All Blacks Winger Ever?

If there's one position the All Blacks have always been strong in, it's wing - left or right. Indeed, many All Blacks wingers have become legends in their own right.

It is quite an easy position to put your name in lights when your main job is to step and run around defenders and score tries.

But who is the greatest All Blacks winger ever?

Here are 5 who could lay claim to that -

Bryan Williams - Beegee Williams made himself a star on the tour of South Africa and was a hit as he bridged the racial divide of the time. One of our greatest ever ABs.

John Kirwan - Current Blues coach, JK was the star of the 1987 World Cup - who can ever forget that dazzling try against Italy which got the tournament underway. Intelligent and talented for his time.

Jeff Wilson - Now a bald TV pundit, Goldie was one of our most reliable and versatile players, but made his name on the wing. A true Southern man and New Zealand athlete - he represented the country in cricket as well.

Doug Howlett - Our number top try scorer of all time - another player similar to Wilson who had plenty of versatility and was a fabulous finisher. Not a bad defensive player either.

But the greatest IMO -

Jonah Lomu - No other winger has ever captured the imagination of a nation. Defenders quaked when he ran with the ball in his peak. He was unplayable when on form. His defence wasn't as bad as critics made it out to be. Always had a good game in black.

  1. Lomu didn't always have a good game in black. His test debut was a shocker.
