Can England Win the 2022 World Cup?

New man in charge, Greg Dyke
New FA chairman, Greg Dyke, has definitely caught the attention of the media and nation with his modern and in-your-face approach to the role unlike his predecessors.

Indeed, Dyke is highly ambitious and has set a goal for England to win the World Cup in 2022 - currently set for Qatar, with a semifinal appearance at EURO 2020 said to be good preparation for a tilt at the world title.

World champions in 2022?
9 years is a long time in football and perhaps, Dyke's words might come true - currently English football has all the money although in terms of developing its own players it still falls well short of the Germans, Spanish and Dutch.

But come 2022, the next generation of footballers would have matured enough to join the quality youngsters already emerging in the Premier League, e.g. Jack Wilshere, Raheem Sterling, etc.

Wilshere will be vital for England chances in 2022
Wilshere and Sterling will be in their late 20s come 2022.

As it stands right now, England are finding it tough to qualify for the World Cup next year in Brazil, with Roy Hodgson's men making hard work of what is on paper a fairly straightforward group featuring Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova and San Marino. Their last games are at Wembley against Montenegro and Poland so they probably will clinch qualification some time in October.

Rooney will be 36 in 2022 - probably might not make it
Mind you this is the business end of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and England do have a game in hand on current leaders, Stevan Jovetic's Montenegro.

However, they will have to do without Wayne Rooney who has a big cut on his head - as he has proudly shown on twitter to the world, while youngsters, Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge are just recovering from injury and must be employed with caution in the game at Wembley against Moldova and away to the Ukraine on Tuesday.

2016 will mark 50 years since Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy - the only time England are World Champions

But looking forward to 2022 - and 2020 probably - is this the side that can bring home the World Cup to England for the first time in 56 years?

In line with Greg Dyke's futuristic approach, could England finally go for the continental 4-3-3 formation?

GK - Jack Butland - currently struggling for game time against in-form Asmir Begovic at Stoke, however, Butland has plenty of time on his hands and will eventually supplant the excellent Joe Hart as England's number one choice.

Saints' Luke Shaw
DF - Luke Shaw - there's a reason why the big clubs are after Southampton's highly talented left back - will be an England regular in 2022 at age 27.

DF - Chris Smalling - every good team needs its experienced centre backs and Smalling should be the old man in the Manchester United and England backline come 2022.

DF - Phil Jones - Smalling's partner in crime and a player who could possibly move into the defensive midfield role. Could act as the sweeper.

DF - Andre Wisdom - Wisdom's development will be one to watch this season especially with the latest injury to Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly still out for Liverpool. Wisdom might very well be the man come 2022

MF - Ross Barkley - Everton's 19 year old prodigy will be 28 in 2022 and is set for his first taste of international football against Moldova or Ukraine. It could be the start of a very long international career although whether that will entirely be with Everton is very questionable.

Nick Powell
MF - Nick Powell - Manchester United's highly rated midfielder has been loaned to Wigan but that should do the youngster no harm - look what similar loan deals did to the likes of Tom Cleverley and David Beckham.

MF - Jack Wilshere - England's next Steven Gerrard/Frank Lampard all in one. Needs to be better looked after as he is definitely a talent.

FW - Raheem Sterling - Liverpool's brightest young spark since Stevie G. Will be at his very best in 2022.

FW - Wilfried Zaha - There's a reason why United took a punt on Zaha - he has plenty of football to come and his versatility to play out wide or in the middle will be huge for England.

FW - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Another fantastic English winger whose best days should come around 2022.

Other players to consider -
GK - Joe Hart - at age 35, if he's healthy, should still be considered even if he's just a back up.

DF - Jack Robinson - will strengthen England's depth at left back come 2022 (29 in 2022)

MF - Tom Carroll - Spurs' highly rated midfielder

Nathan Redmond against Italy for England Under-21s
MF - Nathan Redmond - Norwich have got an absolute gem of a talent - will be 28 in 2022.

FW - Connor Wickham - hasn't scored many goals so far for Sunderland but could be a slow boomer like Gareth Bale (just as well for the Black Cats)
