Richards had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last year and was forced to take time from driving in the Australian V8 Supercar series to undergo treatment.
It is ironic that given the dangerous nature of the sport he is involved in - as well as the number of big crashes Jason Richards has been involved in, including one in Bathurst a few seasons ago which broke many of his bones and ruled him out of racing for quite a while - that Richards would succumb to a cause of biological nature.
Richards was 35. He leaves behind wife Charlotte and daughters, Olivia and Sienna.
