Friday night saw the Highlanders and the Waratahs as the big winners.
While the Waratahs v Rebels game was devoid of any real competitiveness, with the Waratahs racing home to a convincing 32-8 win, the Highlanders v Hurricanes game was full of thrills and spills.
After a first half dominated by the boot, the second half opened up thanks to some brilliance from Ben Smith whose run eventuated in a wonderful Phil Burleigh try. Patrick Osbourne then effectively wrapped up the game for the Highlanders thanks to a gifted wrapped intercept pass from Hadleigh Parkes.
Beauden Barrett showed his absolute class in a mediocre Hurricanes effort, scoring 26 points to keep the Hurricanes right in the mix until the final whistle - his knock on though would confirm the Highlanders win on the night - their 2nd already of the season, 2/3rds on their way to matching their win total from 2013 and possibly looking as contenders if they can maintain some consistency and home form.
Here are the highlights from the games on Friday night!
