Adrian Peterson Plays for Vikings Days After Son's Death

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson bravely took the field on Sunday afternoon for the Vikings' home game against Cam Newton's Carolina Panthers.

The Vikings may have lost 35-10 to the Panthers as Cam Newton threw 20 from 26 for 242 yards and three touchdowns but the result and electric performance by the former Auburn and Heismann Trophy winner probably paled in comparison to the unbelievable effort by Adrian Peterson to play on despite the most tragic of personal tragedies.

Earlier in the week, Adrian Peterson's young 2-year-old son was reportedly beaten to death by his estranged partner's boyfriend.

Peterson vowed to play on despite this most horrific and brutal tragedy which has seen the mother's boyfriend charged with aggravated assault and battery. Peterson, one of the NFL's biggest stars, had 10 carries for 62 yards - nowhere near his best but still respectable given the circumstances he had to go through.

Peterson said that he wasn't sure why he decided to play on Sunday although playing on the field helped him cope with the great loss he experienced in the week.

Whatever he says and whatever people think, my utmost respect goes to Adrian Peterson, one of my favourite NFL players ever, for standing up in the face of personal tragedy, and showed that football transcends all adversity.
