It has been the story of this World Cup qualifying campaign. Bosnia-Herzegovina, 20 years after the start of that horrific war with Serbia and Montenegro that destroyed much of this beautiful country and killed thousands of its people, has made the world headlines for all the right reasons.

Last night must go down as one of Bosnia's greatest sporting moments ever, and probably be their finest since Sarajevo hosted the 1984 Olympics.

As with the rest of the Balkan peninsula, football is the number one sport in the country and in recent times, as evident with the national side, the country has now got world-class players.

The most familiar are probably Manchester City's Edin Dzeko who helped City win their first Premier League title in 2012 following his move from German side Wolfsburg where he won the Bundesliga title, and Stoke City's Asmir Begovic, one of the Premier League's best goalkeepers.

There is some young talent coming up too with 23 year old, Miralem Pjanic, a key part of Roma's title push this year and Miroslav Stefanovic, who plays for newly promoted Elche.

Vedad Ibisevic who got the winning goal against Lithuania that sealed Bosnia's fate, is also a key player at Stuttgart.

So how will Bosnia go? It's difficult to say until the draw is made but for now, Bosnians around the world can finally be proud of their country and celebrate after being so long in the news for all the wrong reasons.
