Is Joe Hart Still England's Best Keeper?

There's always been that old cliche - form is temporary, class is permanent.

Most of England hopes that fact holds true for Joe Hart given his current form for club recently especially with two major World Cup qualifiers on the horizon.

On Wednesday night under the limelight of the Champions League in a game featuring the current European and German champions, Joe Hart had an absolute shocker, two of the three goals Bayern scored should have been saved by England's and Manchester City's number one.

The mistakes were glaring and could not have come at a worst time for a keeper whose form has dropped in the last year or so.

Perhaps, the fatigue from Joe Hart's quick rise from young loanee at Birmingham City to being Manchester City's and then England's number one - no easy feat considering he had to topple a top keeper in Shay Given at City and the likes of Ben Foster and Robert Green along the way, and then play at such a high level to the point he was considered indispensible.

Joe Hart was hero at EURO 2012
Indeed, I once tipped him to be the only player worthy of starting every game for England, and therefore should be captain.

It is therefore not surprising that the moment Joe Hart's form fell, it was quite obvious - cue fodder for the media.

Being a keeper is brutal business - any mistake you commit is likely to result in a goal - ask Viktoria Plzen's keeper too after his glaring blunder on Tuesday night in Moscow.

Indeed, ask the likes of David de Gea, Iker Casillas, Petr Cech, Gianluigi Buffon, and the greats like Oliver Kahn, David Seaman and Peter Schmeichel.

What will make or break Joe Hart now, is whether he can bounce back quickly from this dip in form - and given his class and consistency, I have no doubt he will and that England have never had a better keeper than the one they have right now.

Hart is a fabulous footballer and a good bloke too and just needs the backing of his teammates and coach - which thankfully he is getting right now - to get back to where he was.

I think the case of class being permanent is true for Hart. And if England do get the results they need to book a place in the World Cup next year thanks to Hart's goalkeeping, all will be forgotten very quickly.
