Can Aaron Ramsey End Arsenal's Trophy Drought?

At the start of the season, Arsenal were a club in crisis. No big signings and more players wanting to leave than stay. Then came that opening loss to Aston Villa at home in the opening game of the season.

It turns out that crisis was nothing more than a media beat-up as Arsenal have been 100% since then, even beating their much heralded rivals down the road in Tottenham who were supposed to have an all-star team.

And they even managed to sign a player in the summer - and a big one too, but more on that shortly.

It's still early days but who have picked Arsenal to be top of the Premier League table - 8 points clear of reigning champions, Manchester United and having scored some big results in the league.

Can Ramsey and Ozil end Arsenal's long wait for a trophy?
A key man in Arsenal's early season success so far is Welsh midfielder and captain, Aaron Ramsey. Ramsey's form has been sensational and he has been a thrill to watch this season.

It has been quite an incredible turnaround for a player whose career was nearly over when he suffered a terrible leg break after a horrific tackle by Stoke's Ryan Shawcross - a player Ramsey took on earlier in the season when Stoke came to the Emirates.

Last season, Ramsey's form was mediocre and there were many question marks about the youngster's credentials as a top flight footballer. Indeed, it was Ramsey's fellow midfield partner, Jack Wilshere who was considered the key player for Arsenal - and he still is although he has been overshadowed by the Welshman's form this season.

The last time Arsenal celebrated a trophy - 2005 FA Cup Final
Ramsey is stronger and better than ever and his rise to form is not dissimilar to the form of his predecessors in midfield, Marc Overmars, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg and Patrick Vieira - their awesome form was instrumental in Arsenal winning the title in 1998, 2002 and 2004.

However, speaking of Pires, it is a long Premier League season and there will be injuries and absences meaning that if Arsenal are to end their long trophy drought in the new year, they will need someone besides Ramsey stepping up to the plate.

Arsenal's men of the season?
And that man could be Mesut Ozil whose departure from Real Madrid still amazes even the fans of his former club who begged him not to go.

Even while he's bedding in at the Emirates, Ozil has shown his class with plenty of assists. He appears to be the sort of playmaker that Arsenal have never had and why they've struggled against United and Chelsea in recent times.

Ozil's style of play definitely suits the type of football Arsene Wenger wants to play and it is mouthwatering for Gunners fans just to think of the form he could show once he's at home in London.

Can Arsenal win something this year, even if it's not the league? It's hard to say this early in the season - and of course we have seen Arsenal get off to starts like this and fade away in the new year. But at least, this season is looking far brighter than what the media had predicted only a few weeks ago.
